Broadband Use Predicted To Grow
According to a new Jupiter Research study, broadband penetration into the homes of US consumers is expected to double by 2008. At present, about 20% of US households has fast access to the Internet.
Costs will need to drop to achieve this figure, but Jupiter believes that new market opportunities may make a $30 per month price point an achievable goal.
The reason that this is important to business-to-business companies is that many people search for information on the Internet from home, including business owners who are continuing their work day.
Access speed is one of the key factors affecting website usability. Most websites today are not cognizant of the fact that approximately 80% of the people who look at their website are downloading it at speeds of 3-5 kilobytes per second.
Many business-to-business site webmasters assume that their users are primarily using broadband solutions from work. The best practice is to plan for a dial-up connection and let your broadband users be pleasantly surprised at your site's responsiveness.
