Focus group

A focus group is a group of carefully selected potential users of a website. They are presented with the new system in a group setting, and are encouraged to provide their comments to the group facilitator.

Focus groups are notoriously prone to various problems. For example, one or two very articulate or charismatic members of the group may dominate the discussion; the others might as well not be there. Evenly matched focus group members can still suffer from groupthink, in which particular conclusions are reached early on and even repeated contradictory experience cannot dislodge the earliest conclusions.
