Although it is true that we tend to read a piece of paper starting with the upper left corner, making it a good place to state your company identity at the outset, there is no reason to insist on it.

However, the fact that people see the company logo in the upper left corner on 90% of sites makes it a de facto layout standard that you cannot simply ignore.
